Antonio Ruz was awarded the 2018 Premio Nacional de Danza (Spanish National Dance Award) on October 9th in the category of Creation. For this prestigious award, which is handed down annually by the Spanish Ministry of Culture and Sport, the jury voted unanimously to recognize Antonio Ruz, “for having created a singular and extremely personal language, constructed both within and outside of our country, while heading up his own company, as well as through interesting collaborations representing diverse scenic styles. The latest of these crystallized in the form of Electra, a performance created for the Ballet Nacional de España (Spanish National Ballet) that harmonizes contemporary dance with superb quality.” The jury also highlighted “the importance of the musical pulse of his creations and his artistic ability to incorporate different styles of dance.”
